Panelling is a great way to incorporate a traditional and yet very contemporary feel into your home. Although it may look like an expensive addition to your space, panelling can be a low cost option to add a three-dimensional look, and its easier than you might think!
In our showroom (pictured right) we have used a dado style panelling. This style works very well in either a living room, bedroom or up a staircase and usually consists of rectangular shapes of wood fixed onto the wall. These aren’t often overlapping and are quite sparse in their design too, yet create a stunning effect.
You'll need to measure up for how much panelling is required and also consider the required thickness. When you have all your equipment you can follow these easy steps:
1. Fix your panelling frame to the wall with either glue or hammer and nails
2. Make sure each of your squares are exactly the same dimensions and are the same width apart
3. Use a spirit level each time to make sure the lats are straight before you adhere them to the wall
4. Caulk any areas that need it and sand down afterwards so its smooth
5. Lightly dampen a sponge and apply to the panelling before you then apply an acrylic primer - use 2 coats of the primer
6. Now you are ready to paint! We would recommend at least 2 coats
And voila! Its as simple as that!
